What the ESD-Manager covers

The starting point

Why spreadsheets fail in an audit

Almost every ESD programme starts in Excel, and for a single line that even works. It stops working at the point where the programme has to prove itself – and the move to the 2025 edition sharpens that, because the scope of testing and the documentation duties both grow:

  • A table records what was measured – not what is due
    The spreadsheet is a rear-view mirror. It tells you the wrist strap tester was checked in March. Whether the next check is overdue today is something you have to work out yourself, every time.
  • An expired calibration is discovered too late
    If the instrument’s calibration lapsed in May, every measurement taken with it after May is worth arguing about. In a table nobody sees that until an auditor lines up the dates.
  • Evidence lives in four places
    Measurements in one file, training records in a folder, the programme plan in a Word document, the audit findings in an e-mail thread. Complete only at the moment somebody assembles it – usually the night before the audit.
  • Only one person can find anything
    When the person who built the spreadsheet is on holiday, the customer audit still takes place.

Several plants, one standard

The problem of a group is not the individual plant – it is comparability. Three plants, three ways of measuring, three levels of detail in the records, and no answer to the simple question of where the group actually stands.

Sites and areas are kept in the organisation module, and the dashboard shows the compliance status per site as well as across all of them. The test plan is defined once and applies everywhere; a plant that falls behind becomes visible before the customer notices. Access follows the roles you already have – an area manager works with their own area, the ESD responsible person sees the whole programme.

The reason this tool comes from people who measure themselves is visible in the path a single reading takes:

Measure

The reading is taken in the EPA with a calibrated instrument – a Safe-STAT for resistances, a field meter for electrostatic fields, a walking tester for the personnel-grounding system.

Record

It is entered against the measuring point it belongs to, and assessed against that point’s limit straight away. Out of range is visible on the spot, not weeks later.

Assess

The device that took the reading is recorded with it. If its calibration has lapsed, that shows on the reading rather than in a footnote nobody reads.

Prove

The report is assembled from the readings themselves – per area, per period, per audit. No retyping, and nothing that only exists in one person’s files.

Introduction

Setting up and running it

The setup is not the software – it is your structure. Sites, EPA areas, measuring points, instruments and the test plan have to exist before the first measurement can be recorded. Most of that already exists somewhere in your company: in a spreadsheet, in a folder, in the head of the person who has done it for years. Bringing it together is the actual work, and it is the part we do with you.

After that, the day-to-day is small: whoever measures enters readings, the responsible person looks at the dashboard and sees what is due. Master data changes when the production changes – a new area, a new instrument, a colleague who leaves. What used to be a spreadsheet nobody dared touch becomes a register anyone can keep.

Honest limits

Software alone is not ESD protection

A programme can be documented perfectly and still fail, because a wrist strap is not worn or a shelf is not grounded. Software makes the evidence complete; it does not make the EPA work. That is why the ESD-Manager is one part of what we do, not the whole of it.

Frequently asked questions

What does the ESD-Manager cost?

The price depends on how many sites and users you need, and on which modules you actually switch on. You receive a quote after a short demo, in which we look at your structure - number of plants, EPA areas and workstations - rather than at a price list that fits nobody.

Does it run in the browser, or do we have to install something?

It runs in the browser at esdmanager.app. There is nothing to roll out on the workstations, no server to set up in your network and no client that has to be kept up to date. A tablet on the shop floor works the same way as a PC in the office.

Does the ESD-Manager replace our control programme plan?

No - it carries it out. The plan stays your document: it defines which areas exist, which limits apply and how often you verify. The software takes that plan and turns it into dated tasks, records every measurement against its limit and keeps the evidence together. The plan says what has to happen; the software shows that it happened.

Can we take over our existing measurement data?

Usually yes, and it is worth doing - a year of history makes trends visible from day one. How far it goes depends on the shape your data is in: a clean spreadsheet per measuring point is straightforward, scans of paper records are not. We look at what you actually have during onboarding and say honestly what is worth importing and what is better left in the archive.

Does it work for plants abroad as well?

Yes. Sites and areas are kept in the organisation module, and the dashboard shows the compliance status per site as well as across all of them. A group with plants in several countries keeps one ESD standard instead of one per plant, and the online course exists in 20 languages for exactly that case.

What happens in a customer audit - does the auditor get access?

They do not need one. You export the evidence for the period and the areas the auditor asks about and hand that over. Nobody outside your company gets a login, and the auditor gets exactly the section they asked for instead of a tour of your whole system.

Does the software replace an ESD audit?

No, and it is not meant to. The software keeps your evidence complete and shows where something is due. Whether the measures actually work in the EPA is something only a walk-through with measurements shows. What does change is the effort: an audit spent looking for documents becomes an audit spent looking at the production.

How do training records fit in?

Qualifications are kept with the person, so you can see who has been trained and when the refresher falls due. The ESDL online course connects to it - participants learn in their own language and the certificate lands where the audit expects it.
